National Cadaver Lab
The National Cadaver Lab accommodates 25-35 fellows from across the nation. Courses include a full-day workshop. National courses have three to five cadaver stations in the practical lab. Each station is led by one faculty with five to six physician attendees per station. Rotations allow for attendees to work with several faculty members throughout the day. A technology rotation, proctored by a Boston Scientific engineer, is also incorporated into the lab agenda.
Faculty members deliver presentations on various SCS topics including: patient selection, improving patient outcomes, technology overview, managing complications and procedural techniques. There is also a plastic surgeon dedicated to delivering a presentation on suturing techniques and infection prevention. The plastic surgeon has a dedicated station to teach suturing techniques in the cadaver lab.
Didactic presentations are supplemented with patient case studies. At the conclusion of the workshop we have a faculty panel to discuss questions and the business side of medicine.
